REMONDIS and DIY SOS

REMONDIS supplied all waste management services for to a deserving family from Newcastle that are featuring on the BBC One series ‘DIY SOS: The Big Build’. Our skips were used as part of a life-changing transformation to their home.

The episode of DIY SOS was filmed in Newcastle and a local family were given a life-changing opportunity to rebuild their home and lives. The family live in a 1950s build semi-detached house and did not have enough space or the correct facilities to take care of their children.

The plan was to build a single story extension at the rear of the property and convert the garage (under permitted development) into a bedroom and separate bathroom to accommodate specialist equipment and provide a safe space.

REMONDIS answered calls from DIY SOS for waste management companies to provide skips, in the Newcastle area. We wanted to help this worthy cause from the start, so we delivered a number of 8yd³ skips that allowed the volunteer trades people to dispose of construction waste safely and efficiently. Over the build, we collected over 40 tonnes of mixed construction waste in 12 exchanges, making sure we were prompt with our deliveries and collections so that the trades on site were not left without skips.

It is amazing how something like this is able to bring hundreds of trades and suppliers, from all different industries, together for a good cause. It is astounding to see how the community was able to get together and transform the family’s home and wonderful to be part of such a great community in the North East.
